Our team of Specialist Pain Medicine Physicians and Specialist Rehabilitation Physicians have extensive experience in the effective treatment of complex and persistent pain conditions. Using an individualised and evidence-based model of care our doctors support patients to better manage their pain condition and improve function, participation and quality of life. Treatment is provided with the aim of avoiding over reliance on medications and invasive pain procedures, and with the longer-term goal of transitioning patients to effective self management.

Many patients living with pain have tried multiple medications. Our physicians complete a thorough medication review to assess what is effective, what may no longer be required, and what might be contributing to side effects or reduced function. This process ensures that treatment plans are safe, streamlined, and aligned with best practice prescribing guidelines. Where appropriate, adjustments are made to optimise medication use, reduce risk, and support overall wellbeing.

Complex and persistent pain conditions are often influenced by multiple factors that act as barriers to recovery. These may include a combination of physical and psychological factors and in such cases, a team-based, multidisciplinary approach can be beneficial. Our physicians work closely with our physiotherapists and psychologists to deliver coordinated care that targets all identified barriers to recovery. This team based approach ensures consistent communication, aligned treatment goals and an effective management plan tailored to the patient’s needs.

In some cases, patients may benefit from targeted pain interventions as part of a broader management plan. When clinically indicated, our physicians can consider and facilitate interventions including peripheral joint and spinal injections, radiofrequency treatments, peripheral nerve and spinal cord stimulators, and inpatient ketamine infusions. Some of our physicians are also available to provide peri-operative pain management in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
